Achievements in 2021

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and our non-profit student organization Rise and Shine Youth Leadership (RISE) is celebrating our first anniversary since our establishment in 2020. Together, we have given back to the community and helped underprivileged people, the elderly, and children in need. Through our collective effort, we have been able to accomplish the following this year:

• Our organization continues to grow, with more than 200+ registered volunteers and students participating in various volunteer activities and the creation of our own website.

• Our Sunshine Reading Club provided over 2000 hours of service in total, with over 40+ student teachers helping teach elementary and middle students from K through 6th all over US for free.

• Created several tutoring sessions for elementary math, classes for AMC and Math Counts, and art classes.

• Started the Help Our Elders project to address the issues of increasing Anti-Asian violence during COVID-19 pandemic. Donated supplies (emergency whistles, toothpaste tubes, hand-sanitizers, and essential products) worth over $1,500 to the Center for Pan Asian Community Services, COSMO Health Center, Kottinger Gardens, and Asian Americans for Community Involvement. We have also helped fund a support community training for seniors. Greeting Cards to seniors project is also in progress.

• Hosted a Health Seminar about oral hygiene and an online Talent Show

• Organizing a Book Drive for children at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. We are planning to donate over 200 brand-new books to the sick children to help keep them entertained during the holiday session.

• Organized volunteering groups for food banks and Kids Against Hunger

We are grateful for all our student and parent volunteers who have devoted their time, money, and energy to our organization! We hope that RISE will be able to continue helping families and people in need and cultivating the skills of our future leaders.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. Rise and Shine! Together we can make a change!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
