Taking Care of Your teeth

On February 21, 2021, RISE hosted an Oral Health seminar for our parents and students. We were honored to have May Liu, a UCSF dental student, as our speaker for this seminar. May Liu is currently a UCSF dental student of class 2024. She works as Community Oral Health Coordinator for Asian Health Services in Oakland. The seminar provided valuable information about the causes of cavities and ways to prevent them. Over 30 children attended this seminar. Thanks to our hosts Alexis and Arthur for conducting this seminar.

During the seminar, May introduced eating habits that are detrimental to teeth health. She compared different foods based on their acidity, amount of carbohydrates, adhesiveness, and how long they take to eat. May also explained the importance of brushing and flossing, mentioning useful brushing habits and ways to identify quality brands. She then demonstrated floss and brush with photos and live demonstrations using models. May talked about the science behind chemicals such as fluoride and their use in hygiene products. She recommended approaches for getting a dental clean and oral check-up. Lastly, she hosted a Q&A to answer questions, where participants asked numerous questions. Not only was the seminar informative, but it was also interesting and fun.

Email May Liu with zymayliu@gmail.com if you have any further questions.
